OUR WATER SYSTEM
HOW ARE WE DOING?
This page has been developed to inform the residents of SLCCV as to how they are doing with the water useage during the year and not have to wait until the end of the year to find out that we are not doing a good job. Or that we are doing a great job. This page is up-dated every month
with figures on our total monthly useage, and Max per/day, and average flow per day
WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
Our treatment plant is a biological operation
that under normal conditions works exceptionally
well. It routinely reduces BOD( Biological oxygen
demand ) from over 300 to just 1! BOD is the measure of contaminates in dwater to deprive the water of oxygen, which causes fish kill, for example.
The process is hindered by two problems that our
residents can minimize. The first is trash coming
through the system. Every day we recceive paper towels, cigarette pack wrappers, candy wrappers, medical gloves, and those very pesky
plastic tabs from nitro-glycerin patches. Each of these items will clog weirs and must be removed
by hand, a time consuming task.
The second group of contaminates is food
waste and cooking oil. The oil clogs lift stations and forms balls that must be screened out and the
food waste simply can not be reduced in the time
our plant processes waste.
The staff asks that all residents assist us by using trash cans for these item. Your assistance will keep our plant running at peak efficience.
Let's all try too conserve our water
During time OF DROUGHT There is a need to use less water. Our daily consumption has not changed even though we have been asked to cut back our usage. We all need your help
Thank You
