HOA meeting 10/29/2008

HOA m= eeting Jan. 19, 2009

The meeting was open by President Tom Schneider wit= h the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

Sheriff Ken Mascara spoke to us stating that identi= ty theft is the #1 crime in the US. There was a recent arrest in the a= rea of a ring of people who stole people’s identities while doing work for them. He cautions everyone to= not have your name, birth date and social security number all together in one spot. Any document containing= all three would make it easy for someone to steal your identity.

He discussed the denial of our request, from the Department of Transportation, for a traffic light at our entrance. They will study it again in 2012.<= o:p>

He thanked the people of our precinct for electing = him into office. He states that h= e will try to live up to the trust and confidence. He is honored to serve us. He will always send a representati= ve to our meeting so that we make tell him of our problems and concerns.

Deputy Leroy Davis spoke of the necessity of callin= g 911 when seeing any unusual occurrence in the neighborhood. He said that this year this should= be our change. We should not be = afraid to pick up the phone and call 911.

He gave thanks to the COP members that help keep our neighborhood safe. He would l= ike to encourage other volunteers to this group.&= nbsp; He would also like to get a neighborhood watch together to discuss concerns such as identity theft.

He states that there is zero crime in our area than= ks to COP.

He gave a report of crimes in Lakewood Park area. Most were due to keepin= g home and car doors unlocked. =

He makes a check list that he uses each time he lea= ves his home to insure that it is secure.

Officer’s Report

Secretary – The minutes from the last meeting= of November 19, 2008 were read by Secretary Genny = Smith and were accepted as read.

Treasurer – The treasurer’s report was = read by Gay Fazio and were accept= ed as read.

Membership – Darlene Cou= lling reported that we, as of tonight, 558 paid members.

There will a New Homeowner’s meeting on Sunday March 1 at 2PM in the auditorium. There will be refreshments served.&= nbsp; Darlene is asking that the presidents, or their representatives, of = all clubs set aside that date to give a brief talk, at the meeting, about what their organization is about. =

Communications – There are handouts of disast= er kits from Riverside Bank. Also brochures on blood services are available.

Activities – Linda Murphy reported that the n= ext HOA dance will be on Valentine’s Day February 14th. Doors open at 6:30PM – 10PM.= Tickets will be on sale in the card room.

Committee Reports

Arthen= e Beach thanked everyone who attended the recent presentation by the Treas= ure Coast Hospice. Unfortunately the timing was such = that it conflicted with other activities therefore another presentation will be scheduled so that others will be able to attend.

Arthene also gave a brief overview of hospice’s purpose and when a person should consider using hospiceR= 17;s services. Pat Haden has agree= d to be the coordinator in our village between us and hospice.=

Anita Tudino reported o= n the Pilot Club. It is a group of professional women founded in 1921. There are 14 members in St. Lucie county four of whom are in the park. They support many chari= ties in our area. To raise money f= or these many charitable endeavors they will hold a spaghetti dinner on Februa= ry 15th. Tickets are $10 and wil= l be on sale in the card room.

Old Business

Claudia Berkoff announc= ed the candidates for secretary and vice-president.

Joyce Kelly is a one year resident and is nominated= for secretary.

Colleen Tibolt is nomin= ated for the office of vice-president.

Each candidate gave a brief description of their background.

Tom Schneider called for any other nominations for vice-president from the floor.

There being no other nominations Tom declared the nominations for vice-president closed.

Tom announced that we still need a treasurer since = Gay Fazio will be leaving the office.

Tom discussed the refusal of the Department of Transportation of the traffic light. There was only one reported accident at that intersection. A lot of people are reluctant to r= eport minor accidents for fear of loosening their license and/or insurance complications. We will try ag= ain next year but for now the matter is closed.

There was a request from the floor that a petition = be started. Tom Schneider said t= hat that was a good idea.

Rich Murphy suggested that the refusal could have c= ome due to impending widening of the road.&nbs= p;

New Business – no new business

Tom Schneider suggested that those who used the COP= dumpster for their newspapers continue to do so since = this benefits the COP.

He also suggested that when we are putting our bins= out for collection put the blue bin top so that the papers in the green bin don’t blow in the wind.

The street cleaning will be completed. He will not be paid until the job = is complete.

Russ Marth thanked resi= dents for their generous contributions but only 50% of residents have responded to the appeal. COP volunteers wi= ll be running the concession stand at Mets Stadium sometime in April. They will receive a considerable a= mount of the profits for COP. The volunteers will also be working in the Happy Hour supplying the sandwiches = for a fee of $2.

The changes of the by-laws were read by Secretary, = Genny Smith.

Rod Law questioned the purpose of a “Visitor Section” during the meeting. Tom Schneider explained that non-members have a right to attend the meetings but do not have the right to voice an opinion or to vote. Frank Buzelli= said that it is called the sunshine law.&n= bsp; Anita Tudino said that a raise of hands = will be needed to take a vote.

A motion was made to accept the by-law changes. This motion was seconded.

There being no further business the meeting was adj= ourned at 7:56PM.
